Semper Fi

(eighth grade ... best friends)

I am feeling the blues. I have been extra sensitive the past week ... and I attribute much of this to PMS. However, I am really blue now after having to say goodbye to Sean. My weekend could not have been more perfect....

On Friday, I received three missed phone calls from Sean. I called him back to find out he was home for the weekend and wanted to work out together. Of course I jumped at the idea :o) We met up and went for a two mile run around a beautiful lake. We returned to his house to reconnect and spend some time together. After he prepared for dinner at longhorn with his family, I left for my house. I ended up falling asleep on the couch....

Only to be wakened by the sound of my cell phone ringing the next morning. Sean wanted to hang out again and go for a run :o) Again ... I jumped at the idea! We ran two miles ... around my neighborhood and up to the local town center and back to my house again. At my house, we spent some time stretching and talking. Then I drove Sean back to his house ... and hung out for a bit with him and his mother. I returned back to my house to shower and prepare for a massage appointment. Then I went shopping with my younger sister. When I returned home, Sean asked me to come back over to his house. We hung out until about 10pm ... when he decided to go play pool ... and I decided to go to my friend's Memorial Day barbeque.

My only regret of this ENTIRE WEEKEND is not going to play pool with Sean. I wish I had been able to spend a little bit more time in his company.

Sunday morning, I called Sean to go to the local gym. We spent over two hours there ... and by the time we had left, we had run 6 miles and lifted weights. He rode with me on errands and we went to visit my friends. I dropped him off at his house ... and then enjoyed a Memorial Day cookout with my family at my house. Sunday was the evening he was set to go back to his college house in Winchester and back up his remaining belongings.

Before I left with family to go see the Hangover 2, I made sure to go say my last farewell to Sean. He - per usual - was semi rude hahaha. His mother flipped out that he was not paying me more attention or spending last moments with me. Typical Sean ... I was not hurt nor offended ... it's the usual. I did not have much time, as I had an 8:45pm movie to catch, so we went out to the parking lot to say our goodbyes. No sooner had we left his front porch, did Sean tell me not to cry. The funny thing is I had been rehearsing all weekend ... my exact words to him upon his departure. Part of my rehearsal was telling myself not to cry. But like the good old days ... when we dated and Sean would read me like a book ... he saw the tears building up in my eyes and commented.

Needless to say, my floodgates opened and I bawled. I cried and cried and cried ... and I am not even sure why. Sean was hard to read. He told me he cared about me and that he would see me again. He told me to stop crying ... that I would not miss him and that I would continue on with my life. He reminded me that the past several months ... I never called or needed him ... so there would be no need for me to think I would all of a sudden need him now. Although in some ways he is exactly right, I told him the difference is I cannot just pick up the phone and call him whenever I want. I cannot look forward to seeing him on Facebook chat or on instant messenger whenever I want. I cannot drive up to Winchester to spend the weekend with him whenever I want. And most importantly ... I recognize that this is a change that will forever impact what is and is not for us.

Sean is preparing to be a marine. Not a civilian ... he has done that for the past 22 years of his life. But a marine, and with service to our country, comes great sacrifices. I cried because we will never be boyfriend and girlfriend again. I cried because he will never live five minutes down the street from me again. I cried because he will never be fully mine again. I cried because I know life is going to take us both in different directions. Sean is going to see the world ... possibly meet the woman of his dreams ... settle down and begin a family. I am going to continue teaching in Maryland ... meet the man of my dreams ... settle down and begin a family. However, in my heart, I know this story will most likely not end with him.

It may sound silly ... and now I am venting … but I know this is where our story ends. I would imagine we would keep in touch and remain distant friends throughout the years. However, I had always dreamed of marrying Sean. Back in 2006 when we first became an item, we promised that we would forever be in one another’s lives. Sean got down on one knee and told me I was the one … the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. The one he wanted to have babies with. But then a funny thing called life got in the way, we grew older … had our issues … and decided to go our separate ways. He dated several others … I remained single … but I never quite got over him or the dreams we had shared.

Every time we get together … I cannot help but feel there is some type of connection still. I mean … I know the bond that we shared for four years – no one will EVER be able to take from him or me. Sean and I were one another’s first loves. We lost our virginities to one another. We shared a first kiss … a first I love you … a first fight … a first everything. And no matter how much I date or spend time with new suitors … I cannot shake that there is something different and special about Sean … that I want him to be in my life forever.

Okay. So now I am rambling on and on and on. In a perfect world, I am so proud of Sean and his choice to enlist. I know he is doing what he has been called to do … and I know he will be great at it. I also know that if we are meant to remain friends … if we are meant to cross paths again … even if we are meant to marry, it will happen. But I think I would be okay with all of this if I knew in my heart of hearts that Sean felt EXACTLY the way I do about everything. And that maybe, he stays up late at night pondering the same things I ponder – in relation to him and I.

I would imagine one day I will come back across this and think to myself, “Wow Christina! How selfish and immature were you?” I may even look back and laugh saying, “Oh my gosh! I remember when I thought Sean was the one … and now look, I am happy and blessed with someone who feels the same way about me as I do about them.”

I do not know what the future holds … and I look over the past and marvel at how much things have changed and how much things have remained the same. Basically, this blog entry is for me to clear my chest and clear my mind. And to document that I already miss Sean more than I ever imagined. And I hope he does not forget me … and that maybe, just maybe, at some point … I will be on his mind. One thing is for sure, I know what we had was real – and I will forever hold a piece of his heart. I just pray that he remains safe … that he makes it through boot camp and that he comes out a man!

Again, Sean I miss you already! I love you more than words can share. I am thankful for having had the opportunity to spend a chunk of my life in your arms … and to spend time with you during your last moments as a civilian. You have forever changed my life just by being in it … and I pray that you are fulfilled by the commitment you are making :o) God Speed … Semper Fi <3

"You will never forget your first love. That's what makes it so special. You love so hard, so deeply, and so intensely because you don’t know any different. It's the best until it is over. Then you hurt like you've never been hurt before. Eventually you love again, but you love differently. You will love more carefully, more cautiously. Just know that there is so much more love waiting for you, but there will always only be one first."

Give me the greatness of heart to see
The difference between duty and his love for me
Give me understanding so that I may know
When duty calls, he must go

Give me a task to do each day
To fill the time while he is away
When is in a foreign land
Keep him safe in your loving hand

When his duty is in the field
Please protect him and be his shield
And when he is gone for so long
Please stay with me and keep me strong

Goodbye Sean ...

"First loves are never really over. Nobody's perfect, Sweetheart. But that doesn't mean it wasn't worth your while."

I am so glad I got to spend this evening with Sean! He even agreed to take a photo with me ... our first one togehter since I do not even know when. Sean is leaving for Parris Island, SC next week. He is enlisted as a marine and will be attending boot camp. Sean was my first love ... we were friends all throughout K-12 schooling and dated from our freshman year to senior year of college. He was my first everything ... and it's funny how after all of the ups and downs we have been through, we still keep in touch and remain friends. I love this boy more than life itself ... I still dream of marrying him someday and beginning a life together. That is most likely more fantasy then fact, however Sean truly is someone that I care about and want the very best for! I hope he has a blast at boot camp and comes back a changed individual :o) I think this experience will be good for him ... though it makes me sad to say goodbye to him in the process. I guess this is not goodbye Sean, but I will see you later! Semper Fi.

Update...

Let me briefly and quickly update you on my life:
  1. I survived last week. It was the longest week of my life.
  2. It looks like I am moving out of my parents house on August 1st into a 2 bedroom Condo in Milestone.
  3. Twenty-Six days until the Bahamas. Twenty-Six days until school is out!
  4. I love happy hour at Chevys ... $3 margaritas? A variety of flavors? You cannot beat that! :o)
  5. Adam's Morgan tonight with the girls. Universal Soul Circus tomorrow with the family.
  6. It's gorgeous outside.
  7. I need to begin budgeting the HELL out of my money to prepare for my very first move!
  8. I serve an awesome God ...
Okay. I am not really interested in typing much more. I need to take my FAT ASS to the gym and go for a three mile run. This fat is not going to go away by itself. Happy Saturday everyone!

Sean ... My Marine

Sean called me this evening ... he may be shipping off to bootcamp on Monday. This upcoming Monday instead of June 13th. As excited as I was to hear from him ... to hear his voice ... to know that he shared the news with me before several others .... I was also speechless and choked up. I am going to miss him. I guess I actually do still love and care about him. Sean is going to Parris Island, South Carolina? Sean is going to be a marine? He is not going to be there in the afternoons to chat with me? He will be away for three months and then God knows. I used to dream of this day ... when he went away. When I could finally get over him. When I could move on and find my prince charming. However, there has always been something about Sean. He is the one guy who no matter what ... it is always him. I always come back to him. He can treat me terribly, yet I still forgive and give second chances and love. It was always him. It still is him. I wonder what our futures hold. Will our paths cross again romantically? Will we keep in touch and remain friends? Will we grow apart, go our seperate ways, never to hear from one another again?

I am in tears as I right this. Sean was my first love ... my first *real* boyfriend ... my everything. Four years we were together ... all throughout college. He was my first everything. Although our relationship fell apart ... he is still a huge part of me. He has a huge part of my heart. Sean ... my marine. This is your opportunity to do it big! To make something of yourself. To become a man. To do something with your life. To give back to your country. I admire you for your enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to our country. I LOVE YOU and I am SO PROUD <3 No matter what happens, please know that....

"I am nothing special; just a common woman with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who's ever lived: I've loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough...."

Current Thoughts ...

I have some thoughts on my mind that I wanted to get on paper. These thoughts are all jumbled and not necessarily related ... but they have been floating around in my head, so I thought it was worth opening my mac book and typing away!
  1. I have been contemplating what do I want first: a new card (with new car payments and insurance) or my own apartment.
  2. Today I spoke with Walden University about their Master's of Ed. in Special Education program. I think I am going to go for my masters in Sp Ed (temporarily putting my speech pathology dreams on hold). The kicker is determining where to go ... (online versus an actual class) and how I am going to pay for it all ... especially if I am considering moving out. What's more, I need to contemplate how I will fit that into my busy schedule (especially with teaching a NEW grade at a NEW school next year.)
  3. I am really thinking about where I need to cut back/save money at. I do a pretty good job of saving, however my spending habits are that of a person living at home with her parents O:) I need to start developing spending habits that mirror that of a independent  female living on her own.
  4. I want to pursue the MPDU program in MoCo ... to put me on the right track towards owning my own home.
  5. There are 31 days until Summer Break!
  6. My new pastime truly is reading teacher blogs! I can spend hours online ... browsing through the blogs and getting new ideas! I find these blogs inspirational ... and aspire to truly take to doing it one day - uploading my creative resources! :o)
  7. My sister comes home tomorrow from college.
  8. Oh! I forgot ... in addition to money to pay for rent/mortgage ... I would need to consider cost of utilities AND starting up a new home! I.e. furniture, kitchen stuff, linen, groceries ...
My most important thoughts to date are about money, time and my future in regards to a car/house. I am eager to take the next step towards adulthood ... however I am TRULY doing my research and number crunching before making any life altering moves.

Jeopardy Game for Teachers

Here is a link to a jeopardy game my mentor and I created last year when I was student teaching in Howard County. Please free to download and use with your students as you prepare for a unit test or assessment ... this jeopardy game is a great way to incorporate technology and fun into a review!

I will upload more information later about our school wide behavior management program ... called Go for the Green. It's super effective and is a great way to ensure the entire school is managing behaviors in the same manner.

Mother's Day Project

This is SUPER LATE but my first and second grade students made this for a mother's day writing project ... and they came out so incredibly cute! I thought I would share :o) I have pictures of my kids unique cards ... but I do not want to post their pictures online without parental permission. If I can get around to it, I will block out their faces and upload later tonight!

New Somebody

I cannot wait to begin dating again! I miss the feeling of new love ... of new infatuation ... of new experiences and new beginnings. I miss that new happy glow a girl gets when she is falling in love for the first time ... or in my case, this would be the second time. I am excited to make new memories with someone ... to go on new adventures and share new secrets. To enjoy being young and to meet new people/make new friends. I cannot wait to start dating someone again!

The only question is ... where is my new somebody?

It's True: You Never Forget Your First Love

These past couple of days have been extremely rough for me. I am not sure why, but I *seem* to miss Sean more than ever. What the hell is going on with me!? I mean ... I am super embarrassed that .... two years later (after we broke up ... officially) AND four years later (after all the bullshit I put up with) .... I am STILL crying over this boy. Seriously!? I mean ... I must toot my own horn and congratulate myself on ALL of the progress I have made. Truth is, I have come a LONG way and made TONS of progress. Bravo Christina, Bravo. However, I feel like I should have been over this boy eons ago .... especially considering all of the shit he put me through.

Am I the ONLY one who is going through this? I mean I contemplate on the regular why it is that he is the LAST person on my mind before I go to sleep at night and why he is often on the FIRST person on my mind when I wake up in the morning. It's like I am obsessed with him ... and unfortunately, he does not share that same enthusiasm. I cannot answer my own question of whether I cannot get over him because he was my first love or because I have a hard time of letting people go/moving on. I cannot answer my oqn question of whether or not I still love him ... or if it is the good times with him that I miss. I cannot figure all of this out ... but in my head - which is clearly not logical - I feel like the simple solution is to fall in love. With another guy. To date again. To throw myself completely into another ... so that there is no room left to think of Sean.

I get scared sometimes wondering if Mr. Right is out there for me. I get scared ... because I gave my ALL to someone who wasn't able or willing to give it back. I am convinced I will never love again ... and that's a shame because I have so much love to give. I wonder on what day ... at what hour ... I will meet my new love. And I wonder on what day and at what hour I will be over Sean. Will I ever get over him? I wonder ... All I can continue to do is to send love and send light .... then drop it.

It all begins and ends with Family

I am so thankful for my siblings! We may not always get along or see eye to eye, but the older we get the more we will need to depend on one another for strength, support and encouragement. My parents will not be with us forever, so if it comes to be that it is their time to pass, one another will be all thay we have. I love you Tony and Michelle very much ... my life would not be the same without either of you. Thank you for all the fights, laughs, tears, fun and memories during our years growing up together!

Happy Mothers's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Yesterday my family celebrated the unconditional love, support, encouragement and strength my mother gives to our family at Red Lobster for dinner. I am incredibly blessed to have Vernice as my mother ... I pray that one day I can be half the mother she has been to my own children. Happy Mother's Day Mom!

The Will of God

My plane ticket has been booked to the Bahamas. I got a new teaching job for next year - I will be teaching third grade special education across town. I have had some amazing moments with amazing people. There are thirty days until the end of the school year. I am almost done my first year of teaching. What a crazy ride the past couple of weeks ... let alone YEAR has been. Closing thoughts? "The will of God will never take you where   the Grace of God will not protect you".
